About Josh Cove
I’m Josh, a Recovery Officer, Recovery Coach who has overcome a gambling addiction and now helps others change their relationship with gambling. My own recovery began when I learned to challenge my thinking, recognise my habits, and understand the patterns that kept me stuck. I still use simple daily practices to stay grounded — even something like an ice bath to push back on limiting thoughts.
I was diagnosed with autism later in life. That helped me understand my past mental health challenges and my gambling through a different lens. I process things in a non-typical way, and that gives me a sharper awareness of how individual recovery really is. No two people think the same, and no two recoveries look the same.
My gambling started young and grew quickly with online betting. I spent full monthly wages chasing wins, celebrating the highs, and hiding the losses. Now, life without gambling is broader and more stable, and I support others in finding their own path out.
I’ve worked with over 1,000 people through the NHS, Reframe Coaching, Betknowmore, and Samaritans. My approach is simple: give people space to be heard, help them understand their thoughts, and support them in building a way of living that doesn’t rely on gambling.
If my experience can help someone see a new direction, I’m doing the work I’m meant to do.
